Self-Care Recipe During Quarantine

During these adversarial times, it is important to remember to take care of ourselves physically, mentally, and emotionally. So, I made a recipe for self-care with only the highest quality ingredients.

Know that we’re all in this predicament, but I can assure you that we will get through these uncertain times together!

Without further ado, the first ingredient:

Planning out your day – It may seem like you have nothing to do or anywhere to go, but it is helpful to feel like you do. I like to grab my planner to write down assignments I have for school, meals, workouts, and anything else I might want to do that day. Follow my example and this will not only give you motivation, but also makes you feel more productive throughout the day.

The second ingredient:

Books – When I say “books”, I mean anything that has to do with a book. It can be writing down your thoughts in a notebook, drawing in a sketchbook, reading a picture book, coloring in a coloring book, you name it! A book that can distract you and enrich your mind is a perfect way to ease your mind and ensure that you’re doing your part to help heal the world.

The third ingredient:

Talking to someone – Of course I don’t mean go to your friend’s house, because remember we are practicing social distancing. I mean talk to your friends or family members through a phone call or FaceTime. Not only would you appreciate their company and feel less lonely, but so would they. Everyone is going through this and it is sometimes nice to talk about it, especially with those who share this lovely place we call home.

The fourth ingredient:

Walking or any other form of exercise – You can take a stroll in your neighborhood or in your backyard. I found walking around my apartment to be relaxing and even doing home workouts eases the tension that afflicts the mind. Even exercises that require little exertion takes your mind off things and lets you breathe a little easier.

The fifth ingredient:

Making a new recipe – Find a new recipe on Pinterest or Google and attempt to make it. You can be as creative as you want with this one. It’s all about what your taste buds desire. Examples include, but are not limited to, making a pizza from scratch, baking a cake, etc.

The sixth ingredient:

Watching a new tv show or movie – Having made your new recipe, you can enjoy it by sitting down and watching a tv show or movie that seems interesting to you. Some that I have been currently watching are All AmericanStranger ThingsPerks of Being a WallflowerSpencer Confidential and so many more all on Netflix. This by far has been my favorite thing to do!

The seventh and last ingredient:

Taking a bath and wearing a soothing cosmetic face mask – After a long day of doing so much, a nice and relaxing bath that purifies and accentuates your skin is the perfect way to end the day. You can add in some bath bombs, lightly scented bubbles, or washable finger paint for extra fun. As for the face mask, there are so many different types that you can use. It’s okay if you don’t have one, a simple skincare routine works just as well.

I hope these self-care routines can help you relax during these everchanging times. Remember to stay inside, wash your hands, and resist the temptation to touch your face! No matter how involuntary the motion may feel. Thank you for reading! 😊
