Haircuts at Home (Save Money and Look Good)

Hey everyone! Shortly after we were asked to stay at home, a number of salons and barbershops began to close leaving us wondering when we’ll be able to get our next haircut (among other concerns, of course). During this time, I took it upon myself to understand what it takes to cut your own hair at home.

At first, it was a very intimidating feat; but, after a couple of YouTube tutorials and step-by-steps, I was able to shape together a decent haircut. Today, I’ll take you through the tips, tricks, and the step-by-step video that will get you through your at-home haircut.

The first thing I did was navigate to YouTube. From there, I typed in men’s haircuts at home, and a plethora of results came streaming in. I started clicking on each link down the list, waiting for the one that would magically give me what I needed to begin cutting my own hair. Finally, a video from a well-respected YouTuber named Aaron Marino popped up. His channel goes by the name of alpha m. The video is labeled “Quick & Easy At Home Haircut Tutorial & Tips (How to Cut Your Own Hair)”.

As an avid subscriber and viewer of Aaron Marino’s channel, he provides insights for men on how to style, groom, and make themselves the best person they can be. For all of the men reading, I highly recommend looking into his channel for personal growth and enlightenment. He offered exactly what I was looking for with a sleek at-home haircut performed with only a couple of tools.

What you’ll need is a comb, a haircutting set, scissors, and a handheld mirror. Haircutting sets can go for as low as $30 on Amazon and considering you’ll never need to go to the barbershop again, it’s a phenomenal investment. Also, don’t be afraid to ask for guidance from someone at home if you can as your first time is likely to be a bit difficult.

The first step is to wet your hair and to comb it until your part is visible. Moving on to the next step in the haircut, you’ll want to decide how short you want to cut your hair. The guards that come with your set will determine the length of the hair for your haircut. Pick the one you normally choose when you go to the barbershop and start with the sides beginning at your sideburns. From there, you’ll run the guard up to your part and fade out just before you reach the top.

Once your sides are completed, grab your mirror and make sure you can see the back of your head as you begin cutting the back. Do the same thing as you did with the sides and run the guard up the back and fade out before you reach the top. After you fade the sides and the back to your satisfaction, it’s time to grab the scissors. You’re going to wet your hair once again and go section by section starting with the front. Thin your hair out between your fingertips and chop off little by little, section by section until it’s the length of where you want it to be. Once you’re finished with the top, jump in the shower, dry off and style it to see the final result.
