A Few Tips for Kind, Healthy Social Media Engagement

Social Media Kinds Day! November 9th, 2024

Let’s celebrate kind and healthy ways to engage online! Here are some quick tips from MIT’s MindHandHeart initiative to bring positivity and mindfulness to your feeds:

Pause Before You Post: Ask yourself, “Is it true? Is it necessary? Is it kind?” before hitting send.

Live in the Moment: Be sure to take the time to be present and connect with the world around you! Snap a pic, but remember to savor experiences beyond the screen too.

If you find yourself stressed by social media…

Consider deleting the apps from you phone so as not to have easy access.

Link, Don’t Compare: Instead of scrolling for comparison, try connecting with someone—send a thoughtful message to brighten their day.

Start Your Day Intentionally: Try a screen-free morning to begin with a clear mind.

Support healthy online communities: Try to limit yourself to following those that are close to you and bring you joy!

By making small changes, we can create a healthier online community. Happy Social Media Kindness Day! 🌟

A Few Tips for Being Kind

World Kindness Day! November 13th, 2024

Be kind to yourself first:

  • Use positive self-talk.
  • The kindness and patience you practice with yourself will transfer to others.

Practice forgiveness:

Let go of negative thoughts & experiences in order to create a more peaceful mindset.

Surround yourself with positive people:

Being able to walk away from negative situations and people will help you keep calm in the face of distress

Practice gratitude:

  • Focus on the positives!
  • Gratitude not only increases happiness, it reduces stress and makes it easier to cope with life’s challenges.

Practice Patience, Not Criticism: When frustrations arise, take a moment to see the positive in others’ intentions. This can help turn potential conflicts into opportunities to connect.

Listen with Empathy: Being present and truly hearing others’ words is one of the simplest and most impactful ways to show kindness.

Show Gratitude: A few moments reflecting on what you’re thankful for can elevate your mood and create a more positive mindset to share with others.

Help Out: From lending a hand to a friend to giving genuine compliments, find little ways to support those around you.

Remember, kindness can be contagious! By taking even small steps, you inspire others to spread kindness too. Let’s make every day feel like World Kindness Day! 🌟

Hello!  I am very happy to be come aboard the I-Know program. With almost two decades of experience in libraries, I have taught research skills and information literacy in a variety of settings and curricula.  And with more recent experience in instructional design and technology, I enjoy working with instructors to develop interactive and engaging learning content.  I try to learn more about teaching with technology everyday, and enjoy learning about new teaching tools and how they can bring courses to life.  And, I believe learning about library resources and searching skills can also be fun and interactive!  I look forward to meeting and working with all of you.
