“Picture it: middle school, late 90’s, a young girl learns she has the option to swap her P.E. class with the gloriously titled course known as “office work.” A slip of paper and a ridiculous number of signatures later and there she stood, in the entrance of her middle school library. This is where my library journey began.

While the term “typical day” is difficult to describe, in general my role as Student Success Librarian involves being in constant communication with colleagues in the library and across campus. I’m also immersed in fun ways to engage with students and support them as they progress towards their degree. It’s honestly such a worthwhile position!

When I’m not creating controlled chaos – aka coordinating events – at work, I enjoy reading! I know, a librarian who likes reading, how cliche – but it’s true, I love escaping into different fantasy worlds. I’m currently reading a duology by Justina Ireland, Dread Nation. It’s set mid-U.S. Civil War and says, “But what if zombies appear…” – rest assured it’s done in a solid, non campy way. If I’m not reading, video games, horror movies, and family time are my other activities.

I often joke around that anything weird that happens in the library must be ghosts. However, the joke is maybe not so farfetched. A colleague once shared a story that happened when she was working on tech in the library after hours. She was joined by 2 others and they all stepped away from the office to check something and distinctly heard a rolling chair moving in the office. They returned, and sure enough, a chair was pulled out despite them being the only ones in the building. Hmm…👻.”
